Recognizing sounds with Machine Learning and Python

Sound is a rich source of information about the world around us with many applications within music and speech domains, as well as specific tasks in industry and science. This talk will show you how to build practical models for sound classification, using Convolutional Neural Networks on audio spectrograms. MQTT Pub/Sub: Not just for IoT

This is the basic introductory talk on MQTT. MQTT is a pub/sub protocol for interprocess communication. One process publishes information to a topic, other processes can subscribe to that topic. There is a tree of topics, so it is ideal for managing complexity. It also supports multiple Quality Of Service Levels all the way up to exactly once guaranteed delivery. MQTT is an industry standard, which runs on every platform imagine-able. By the end of this talk you should know enough to decide if MQTT is right for your projects.

ZODB - a mature object-graph database

The ZODB is a mature object-graph database written in Python and optimized in C. Just subclass off of class Persistent Object, and Persistent Container, and your objects, graphs and applications become persistent. Persistent Python, supported by the ZODB allows you to make any Python data structure persistent.

Neo4J and ArrangoDB Graph are the two best known graph databases. But they give you a graph of dictionaries. The developer is responsible for reading and writing. In contrast ZODB gives you a graph of persistent Python objects, sending messages to each other and supporting duck typing. Reading, writing, and caching are all done transparently to the developer. Much easier and faster.

If you are a Python developer, you will find much greater productivity using an object-graph database written in Python, than a graph database written in Java or C. And much much easier to make any desired changes to the database.

The software world is driven by the needs of big data and big corporations. Sure the ZODB with RelStorage can store as much as PostgreSQL, but ZODB is perfect for small data, small companies, and small distributed applications.

Fortunately, there are many good, ready-to-use libraries, thanks to which we can do almost anything with PDFs — from the extraction of text data, by finding the X, Y coordinates of specific elements, to conversion to well-known formats. Passionate engineer and speaker, who goes by the motto: "Innovate, Inspire, be the change". His professional career started in a few Gdansk technology SMEs and research institutes. "Needless to say - it’s amazing to have an opportunity to share my experiences on a conference located in this great city!", he says. During studies he was leading teams of students building robots and organising one of the biggest robotic tournaments in Poland. Taking a twist in his career, he moved to the Netherlands to work for 2 years for the European Space Agency as something between a Robotics and Systems Engineer intern. Aside from fulfilling regular duties, during the time there he’ve developed an open-source Android application for enhanced Global Navigation Satellite Systems positioning. For their efforts, they’ve been awarded with internal ESA award and Galileo Masters award. Slowly developing love to both Czech Rebublic and Software Development, he have finally moved to Prague and taken up duties as a Software Engineer at Showmax. Since then he’ve been on a daily basis working in Python with Django and Falcon. And to be honest - he is enjoying every day!
